City of Arlington Injury Lawyers

Arlington, Texas, was named in honor of General Robert E. Lee’s hometown in Virginia. Located 20 miles west of Dallas and only 5 miles from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Arlington is the 7th largest city in Texas and among the fastest-growing cities in the nation.

Home to Six Flags Over Texas and the Texas Rangers, Arlington is probably best known for its recreational attractions and major league baseball. Since 2009, Arlington also hosts a $650 million football stadium for the Dallas Cowboys that seats 80,000 people and ranks as the third largest stadium in the National Football League.

In addition to its amusement and sports attractions, Arlington has three colleges, and a high-tech sector that includes computer chip manufacturing and nanotechnology research. Arlington’s industry includes a General Motors auto parts plant with more than 3,000 workers and manufacturing of rubber and plastic products, medical equipment, electronic equipment and oilfield equipment. With its close proximity to DFW International Airport, Arlington also serves as the transportation hub of the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Arlington’s colorful history dates back more than 150 years. It was once a trading post and stagecoach stop that became known as Johnson Station. It later became a train stop for the Texas and Pacific Railway, which opened as Arlington Station in 1876. Arlington was once well known for its mineral waters. It has been the site of battles with Indian tribes, an agricultural center, and a horse racing and gambling haven.

Incorporated in 1884, Arlington continues to explode in population, reaching nearly 380,000 by 2013. The city’s population increased from 8,000 to 45,000 in the 1950s under Tom Vanderfgriff, mayor for 25 years who brought Six Flags Over Texas to Arlington in 1961. Six Flags is the largest family theme park in the southwest and central states and it currently draws more than 3 million visitors a year to Arlington.
